OUR IMPACT

OUR IMPACT The D. Brown Foundation seeks to have a meaningful long-lasting impact on the lives of student-athletes. We rely on collaboration with our partners: families, schools, community based-organizations, religious-based organizations, and corporate partners to successfully improve student-athletes adjustment from high school to college by: Promoting academic excellence among youth in grades 6-8 who play sports or express an interest in sports. Educating youth in grades 9-12 of academic and athletic requirements necessary to play collegiate sports. Preparing high school student-athletes academically, socially, financially and athletically for college We have accomplished so much and we still have so many more youth to reach. Our accomplishments this year include: Understanding NCAA Eligibility Requirements and Registration: In 2016, D.Brown Foundation visited 6 schools in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV). We increased students’ understanding of NCAA eligibility requirements and registration for collegiate sports participation and increased students’ awareness of available athletic and academic scholarships.

D. Brown Annual College Tour: Over 200 high school students in the Washington, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area participated in D. Brown Foundation’s Annual College Tour in 2016. Our students gained an understanding of admission criteria, campus life, and learned how to prepare themselves as competitive candidates at 21 Colleges and Universities in the United States. Additionally, our students interacted with college students and were able to gain a real sense of college life from them.

Individual Tutoring: 124 students in grades 9-12 received individual tutoring 2 hours a week for one school year.

Communities in Need: In 2016, we quadrupled last year’s giving to families in need of Thanksgiving meals. Two hundred families were delivered with food for Thanksgiving in 2016.
